First, you clearly haven't ever seen my granpa use the Google : this feature will save him minutes. And seconds, you don't try to find something like hellevoetsluis too often either. Point is most people are not so fluent with the typing thing and many have speling issues.
Also as it was pointed out before, you're used to think of the right key words in order to have a successful search. Most of us try searches with bad / not enough keywords and end up loosing time digging the monstruous pile of junk results to find something relevant. Most of the time, the instant feature will provide you with exactly the keywords you need to make your search efficient.

That was kind of an insider joke, sorry if it sounded like we tried to con someone. "Real time quote" doesn't mean much in the first place. If you look into the fine prints of most services providing "real time quotes" they will mention the update delay. Something along the lines of Quotes delayed, except where indicated otherwise. Delay times are 15 mins for NASDAQ, NYSE and Amex. That's because that's the delay the stock exchange provides us with in the first place.

If you provide delayed quotes and call them real time, then it's not a matter of having no soul, it's a matter of fraudulent misrepresentation to your clients. Real time, streaming quotes are just that, and if you aren't providing them but are pretending you are, you should be taken behind the barn and shot.

Google Instant might be the opposite of too nerdy. There is a sizeable chunk of searchers who either (a) hunt-and-peck instead of touch typing, or (b) use the mouse instead of hitting enter. For them, the experience of instant search is significantly better.

If you can almost touchtype then, sometimes, it decides that you want to write some word, that is in fact different from what you wanted to write, and it changes the word. So then you have to correct it's assumption, because 90% of the time it was wrong if you know what you are looking for, and you end up taking more time.

I don't use Instant as well.. i hate it, when the results flash up for a second and change if i type another char. It's just a new nerdy stuff like auto-complete ;-)

I can't stand google instant. As soon as I saw it I started preparing to use a new search engine. I discovered that I could turn it off but only if I'm logged in to google. Duck duck go is looking more promising every day.
